Pokémon and ESA Team Up for World Space Week: Three Bonus TCG Accessories

Pokémon are blasting off to the stars! The European Space Agency (ESA) and The Pokémon Company International (TPCi) have announced a first-of-its-kind collaboration for World Space Week, taking place from October 4 to 10, 2026.

A unique, one-time collaboration

Announced in early August, this partnership is presented by ESA as an exceptional, limited-time operation. The idea: bring together two worlds that share the same values of curiosity, exploration and imagination.

On one side, ESA has been exploring the Universe since 1975 and sharing its discoveries with the public. On the other, Pokémon has been inviting generations of players to discover, learn and explore through play since 1996. Both partners share a common goal: inspiring young people to dream big and take an interest in science.

Anne-Sophie Bradelle, Head of ESA’s Communication Department, sees this alliance as a unique opportunity to bring space to a wide audience. She ties it to the agency’s Strategy 2040, one of whose ambitions is to inspire Europe, especially younger generations.

Three accessories for the Pokémon TCG

To mark the event, the collaboration also extends to the Pokémon Trading Card Game with three themed accessories:

  • The playmat: lay out your cards on a space-themed background during your matches;
  • The card sleeves: protect your deck with a matching design;
  • The deck box: store and carry your deck to tournaments or casual games with friends.

A cohesive trio that lets you fully kit out a deck in ESA and Pokémon colors. Since this is a one-time collaboration, these accessories are likely to appeal to players and collectors alike: don’t wait too long if you want to get your hands on them.

What is World Space Week?

Declared by the United Nations General Assembly, World Space Week is celebrated every year from October 4 to 10. The dates commemorate the launch of Sputnik 1 (October 4, 1957) and the entry into force of the Outer Space Treaty (October 10, 1967). Around the world, space agencies, schools and museums organize activities to introduce the public to space.
